Info on Fines Fines for overdue or damaged materials The library has a responsibility for stewardship of materials in its possession. Patrons are responsible for library materials in their possession and are obligated to return these materials by the end of the approved loan period in the same condition as when they were initially borrowed. Materials returned after the approved loan period will be assessed fines in accordance with the following schedule of fines: Books and periodicals $.10 per unit per day ($5.00max.) Patrons with overdue materials, except videos, will be notified by telephone two weeks after the end of the approved loan period. Thirty days after the end of the approved loan period the patron's borrowing privileges will be suspended and a notice will be sent to the patron. The fee for the notice will be $1.00 plus postage in addition to the $5.00 maximum fine. Circumstances involving library materials not returned within sixty days after the end of the approved loan period will turned over to the town court for recovery. Videotapes are considered overdue one day after the end of the approved loan period. Patrons with overdue videotapes will be notified immediately and will have borrowing privileges suspended. A notice will be sent two weeks after the end of the approved loan period. Circumstances involving videotapes not returned within thirty days after the end of the approved loan period will be turned over to the town court for recovery. Parents and guardians are responsible for payment of charges and fines incurred by their minor children in accordance with the "borrowing privileges" section of this manual and as such may have their borrowing privileges suspended. Patrons with overdue materials who have not had their borrowing privileges suspended may be limited on the number of items that may be borrowed at the discretion of the library manager. Patrons are responsible for maintaining the condition of borrowed materials. Materials that are lost or damaged (other than from normal wear from use) while on loan to the patron will be repaired or replaced and the amount charged to the patron. Patrons with borrowing privileges suspended will have all privileges restored when all fees and fines have been paid and materials returned or replaced.
